From Parking Space to Green Space: Pop-up Park for PARK(ing) Day

On Friday, September 19 (9 am to 5 pm) and Saturday, September 20 (9 am to 5 pm), Gow Hastings Architects, in partnership with Gleam+Sip plant-based café, will turn parking space into green space for PARK(ing) Day. This global, public, participatory art project takes place annually on the third weekend of September. People temporarily convert parking spaces into tiny parks and repurpose them as places for art, play, and activism.

Toronto participants in this global event will transform a curbside spot at 275 Spadina Road into a vibrant mini-habitat featuring native plants, pollinator education, and a place to sit and connect, helping turn pavement into a pop-up “parklet” using repurposed pallets and reclaimed materials to create seating and displays. This is meant to be a zero waste event, so all installation materials will be donated or recycled.

Everyone is welcome to come and discover how urban spaces can support biodiversity, spark conversations, and foster a stronger sense of community. Bring your own mug and enjoy matcha provided Gleam+Sip.

Enjoy a refreshing beverage, explore pollinator-friendly planting tips, and imagine a greener, cleaner future for cities.
